Plants as Electromic Plastic Interfaces: A mesological approach

This commentary session delves into the fascinating paper by Marc-Williams Debono and Gustavo Souza, which presents a groundbreaking perspective on plant cognition. The authors propose that plants act as eco-plastic and electromic interfaces, driving intelligent behavior through synchronized electrical networks.

I was lucky enough to see Souza present his theories live this week, and I appreciate his out of the box thinking. Rather than relying on anthropocentric ideas of cognition, the authors argue that plants demonstrate a unique form of perceptual learning and intelligence, rooted in their bioelectrical systems.

By exploring the electrome—the spontaneous low-voltage emission system in plants—the paper shows how plants filter and process environmental data, adapting to stimuli in complex, intelligent ways. This electrical matrix, which acts as the plant’s perceptive system, allows kin to accumulate knowledge, learn, and develop behaviors that enhance survival. This session breaks down these scientific concepts, making them relatable and actionable for personal growth.

As a Nature-Inspired Mentor and World Ambassador for Plant Advocacy, I’ll guide you through the insights of plant intelligence offered by this study, showing how it can inspire our own personal evolution. Just like plants, we can adapt and thrive through dynamic interactions with our environments, fostering growth and creativity.
